Fearing failure allows negativity to creep in, and these thoughts can weaken sharp, successful people. Transform fear, anxiety, and worry about future career moves to hope, ambition, and energy about your present achievements. The five tips below help you banish fear and achieve your aspirations.
Consistency is key to breaking through a rut and finding success. The boring and seemingly archaic tasks you complete daily are instrumental in career and personal development. Each simple task allows you to focus on your core competencies and strengths. Frantic and distorted comparisons to success around you are a waste of time and energy. Instead, hone in on those basic skills, and develop a reputation for consistent, good, and strong work.
Time constraints for personal development lead to arbitrary, stressful deadlines. Each person has a different path to success; learn from and study their paths, but don’t get so caught up in a rigid timeline that you become too anxious to move for fear of making a “wrong” decision. If you trace someone else’s roadmap and follow it exactly, you only receive a flimsy carbon copy of success, and you ignore so much of your own unique potential. Each day you complete one small task that moves you towards a goal on your unique map to success, you slowly and surely climb out of your rut.
Continue to learn, and improve your education. Social media is not news, and this medium does not allow for complex, critical thoughts. The flash headlines and seemingly sensational snippets are meant to elicit a strong (usually negative or stressful) reaction, and this leads to distraction and lack of direction. Read journals, newspapers, and all kinds of genres of books to help you stay energized and hopeful. Strive to understand how you can adapt and use the lessons from these works to push you out of a rut and into a more creative, supportive space.
Persistence and discipline lead to “dramatic” breakthroughs. Often, the successes of people seem like strokes of great luck, but many of these transformations can be boiled down to the same, persistent, daily habits. These actions are multiplicative and build positive energy, so stay disciplined when work becomes stressful or when negativity tries to take over your mind. Celebrate great achievements, but also take time to honor the grit, tenacity, and resolution it took to stay the path despite setbacks and uncertainties.
Finally, get out of your mind and lend a helping hand. Giving your time and talents is the easiest but most overlooked way to get out of a rut and find meaning and success in your career and life. Collaboration takes negativity out of the equation, and it creates momentum and optimism about the future. Everyone experiences lows in their careers, and the quickest way out of the dark is to use your light and energy as a service to others. Be fearless!
