In her wide-ranging role as Executive Vice President and General Manager of Turner Studios, Laura Dames is responsible for shaping the infrastructure of Turner Studios, the next generation production division that supports the entire Turner portfolio and leading this division to best meet the needs of a rapidly changing media environment. Under her leadership, Turner Studios has become an innovative, central hub for the collaboration and coordination of media assets throughout all Warner Media divisions. Turner Studios encompasses a broad range of creative and technical capabilities including production, post production, design, live events, emerging media and social media production and collaboration.
Through Dames’ direction, Turner Studios collaborates with more than170 partners within 42 business units across all Warner Media divisions – including TNT, TBS, truTV, Turner Sports, Cartoon Network, CNN and Turner Classic Movies (TCM) – along with Bleacher Report and Great Big Story and many more. Overall, more than 500,000 man-hours are devoted to content and creative production through Turner Studios each year covering nearly 2,000 projects.
The Turner Studios team includes hundreds of highly-skilled artists and craftspeople, most of whom are concentrated in a 300,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility in Atlanta. This Turner Studios facility is home to TNT’s Inside the NBA, NBA TV, Our Bleacher Report UEFA coverage, ELEAGUE, the MLB on TBS and NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship coverage originating from Atlanta, as well as TCM and many other productions.
The 10Th Street Production team is an in-house agency within Turner Studios that provides “above the line” content creation services and the Turner Live Events team provides large scale event productions for fans including March Madness Music Festival and Fan Fest during the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Final Four, NBA Opening Night and NBA All Star weekend events and many, many more.
Laura and her leadership team have also been responsible for coordinating production and cross-brand communication surrounding key tent pole events for the company, including the HBO Max Investor Day event, Turner Upfront, and Turner’s presence at large industry events such as CES and Comicon.
In her 27 years at Turner, Dames has been responsible for creating and restructuring many divisions and departments including Turner Studios.
Most recently overseeing the restructuring of the Sports Data Strategy and Insights department, shaping a forward-thinking approach to the way analytics are utilized in order to reflect the cross-platform delivery of content that is essential in today’s media ecosystem.
Prior to her current elevated role, Dames was appointed Senior Vice President and General Manager of Turner Studios in 2015, overseeing the transition of that organization into the Entertainment division. This involved reevaluating the financial structure, as well as overall production flow, processes, brand alignment and capabilities for the division, as well as the event marketing team. Prior to this role she spent a short time in Advertising Sales where she helped create the portfolio-wide communication for the newly reorganized division and created the Marketplace Image department.
Dames was previously SVP of Business Operations for Turner Entertainment Networks (TEN) including TBS, TNT, TCM and truTV. In the unique role, she led the vision and strategy and operations for the formatting of all programming and on-air asset management including advertising inventory management, as well as the creation of all sponsorships, marketing partnerships and promotions for national advertisers, from strategy to concept development through the final creative production. In this role she also created and ran the networks in-house branded content creative agency.
She previously was also Vice President of Marketing Operations for TNT, a position she originated where she was charged with identifying and managing the use of Time Warner assets to strengthen the marketing and promotional efforts for TNT’s programming branding initiatives. Before being appointed to the Vice President position, Dames served as Director of Marketing for TNT, overseeing the development and implementation of marketing strategies and multi-platform consumer marketing and promotion campaigns for all of TNT’s award-winning original films and specials, as well as trade initiatives.
Dames joined Turner in 1992 after graduating summa cum laude from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst with a bachelor of arts in communications and a certificate in film studies.
She recently served as the Chair for Turner Women, a corporate resource group dedicated to the support and advancement of female executives at Turner and on the Alumni Advisory Board for the UMASS department of Communications.
Dames resides in Atlanta with her husband, Mark, and their two teenage children Cameron(19) and Kurt (16).
