Moderator: Sheri Gates McGaughy

Sheri Gates McGaughy is founding partner at McGaughy Law, LLC. Her clients include The Weather Channel, Serta Simmons Bedding, Philo, Huddle Tickets and other companies in the television and digital media industry. She focuses on media, privacy, ecommerce, trademarks, domains, television and digital advertising, and deals involving technology, websites, mobile apps, distribution, licensing and international issues. She was formerly Vice President, Business and Legal Affairs for The Weather Channel. Sheri is an alumna of the Betsy Magness Leadership Institute, served as President of WICT Southeast, currently serves as the Chapter’s National Advisor, and was honored to receive the Chapter’s Red Letter Horizon Award for Woman to Watch. She is an alumna of Leadership Atlanta and serves as a representative on Atlanta’s Neighborhood Planning Unit A. She recently stepped down as a Trustee at her church and is involved in mission work in Nicaragua. Prior to The Weather Channel, she was Assistant Vice President at ChoicePoint Inc. and its predecessor, Equifax Insurance Services, worked for a large national law firm, and clerked for Judge Joel F. Dubina on the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. Sheri received her J.D. and her B.B.A. in Management Science and Information Technology from The University of Georgia. She is married and has a daughter in college.

 

 

Keynote Speaker: Melissa Ingram

Melissa Ingram

Melissa M. Ingram is Vice President, General Manager for aspireTV – the national television network founded by Earvin “Magic” Johnson and is committed to moving black and urban culture forward. She oversees the network’s day-to-day operations and strategy, evolving the network into a lifestyle brand, focusing on how the black audience eats, lives, shops, plays and most importantly, dreams. Additionally, she oversees the development of aspireTV’s original programming, which includes a cooking show executive produced by Issa Rae and Chef G. Garvin (Butter + Brown) and a home renovation show hosted by celebrity interior designer Nikki Chu (Unboxed with Nikki Chu). Ingram is also responsible for the launch of aspireTV’s newest initiatives, the aspireMKTPLC, a uniquely black shopping experience for the savvy and conscious consumer as well as aspireTV’s production of original short independent films in partnership with Damn Write Originals.

A Cablefax Most Powerful Woman, Multichannel News’ 40 under 40 and Most Influential Minorities in Cable recipient, Ingram is of a small elite group of women and distinctly, women of color running television networks. She is the embodiment of the aspireTV brand tag line “See Yourself Here,” ensuring that black and urban audiences are authentically represented. Recently named an Atlanta Tribune Woman of the Year and 2018 Women in Cable Telecommunications (WICT) Southeast Red Letter Award Horizon Woman to Watch, Ingram continues to serve women and people of color with excellence at every meaningful touch point. She has served two terms as Director at Large (Bylaws) for WICT SE and is a 2011 WICT Rising Leaders Program graduate. She continues to hold membership with the WICT SE Chapter and the Atlanta Chapter of the National Association for Multi-Ethnicity in Communications (NAMIC).

Ingram graduated magna cum laude from Spelman College and holds a Juris Doctorate (JD) from the University of California, Berkeley. A native of Los Angeles, California, she now resides in Atlanta with her husband Demetrius and daughter, Micah Michelle.
